Lechaim-to-life
Touching meetings with and assistance to Shoah- Holocaust survivors in Israel
Dear friends of Israel!
With this folder, we want to introduce you to the work of “Lechaim-to-life”. It is a unique program and we warmly invite you to participate with us as a partner.
The mission of L’Chaim-to-life
The mission of “LeChaim-to-life”, is to provide practical and rapid assistance to Holocaust survivors and to educate post highschool Israeli youth in the ethical values of the Jewish Bible – the TeNaCh.
The founder of the L’Chaim-to-life program in Israel is Daniel Braun. His personal mission is that all lonely and needy Shoah survivors in Israel will be provided with that what they urgently need, no matter what the cost and with no bureaucratic delays.
Background
Today, there are estimated to be about 80.000 Shoah survivors living in Israel in conditions of great poverty. This figure represents 30% of all living survivors in Israel, most of whom are aged between 70 to 90 years old. They are getting weaker and none of them can raise their voice so their needs go unheard or ignored.
Young and old united in this unique program
In the program of “LeChaim-to-life”, we bring young students and soldiers in contact with the elderly survivors who give them eyewitness accounts of the Shoah horrors and tell their personal survival stories. These young people aged 18 and upwards are deeply touched and actively engaged in encouraging these lonely people in a special way.
We visit the survivors regularly, to help and listen to their touching stories. Our young people bring boxes with food and bring a positive spirit to them. Each visit will live forever in their minds. We adopt these precious people as if they were part of our family. If needed, houses were being painted or getting a cleanup. The deployment of the young people works very positive and effective.
The Shoa survivors finally, emerge from their isolation and the young people receive a precious experience that will influence them also, during their whole life. These elderly with their history, will never be alone anymore and will never have the feeling of being thrown away from, or being worthless in, our society.
With this program, we do not only help the elderly, but we also build the future of participating young people, who can very likely become the future leaders of Israel.
First-hand stories
The Shoah survivors, confront us very direct with the awful crimes of the Shoah, the result of the millennia of antisemitism in Europe.
Many Jewish people who survived the Shoah, have had a very difficult life, which we cannot begin to imagine to ourselves. Many of them, had lost everything : their parents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, their homes and properties…
Before the establishment of the State of Israel, in 1948, Great Britain blockaded the entrance for the Jewish refugees, who were liberated from the European concentration camps, but on the other hand they accepted the establishment of incoming Arabs from the neighboring countries into Eretz Israel. Until today, the Jewish people keep struggling, battling, for this tiny piece of land which they received from G-D as their inheritance. Still, there is a deep pain at the loss of children and grandchildren through the wars, that have battered Israel.
The long-lasting persecution of Jews has never ended, not even after horrors of the second World War. Antisemitism is a human war against the acknowledgment of G-D and against the fact that the Jewish people were the Chosen People for setting an ethical and moral example to the world. The extent of the suffering of the Jewish people through the centuries whilst bringing light and faith in G-D into the world is incredible and inconceivable.
We live in a time wherein antisemitism is once again taking on enormous proportions in the whole world. We, understand G-D’s Words: we can no longer be silent watchers of how history is repeating itself, but need to take a stand with appropriate actions in this evil, and remove antisemitism in our surroundings. If we do not act against it today, tomorrow might be too late?!
